SOUTHWATER PARISH COUNCIL

GENERAL BACKGROUND

The Parish Council is a local government authority (Local Government Act 1972 s 270). A parish council is constituted by powers conferred by Parliament. A Parish Council can only act in relation to the powers which have been conferred by Acts of Parliament.

Opening Hours: Monday, Wednesday & Friday - 9.30am to 1.00pm, Tuesday & Thursday - 9.30am to 1.00pm & 2.00pm to 5.00pm

The office is the old Youth Club hut, opposite Southwater Sports Club in Church Lane. The building contains a meeting hall/ exhibition area, an office, kitchen, and toilets. (A small image of the Council Chamber is below).

The office is used principally for meetings of the Parish Council. It holds exhibitions on matters such as village planning developments and local history. It contains information on local facilities, clubs and community events. It is also hired out to some other local clubs and organisations.

PARISH COUNCIL STAFF

The Parish Council employs a part-time Parish Clerk and two part-time assistants who work in the Council Chamber. It also employs a Manager and employees to run Southwater Leisure Centre and Easteds Barn.

The Parish Council also has Parish Council Members who are elected every four years. Currently there are 15 Parish Council Members and they are:

MEETINGS

There are approximately three meetings each month. All meetings are held in the Council Chamber in Church Lane and they are open to the public. There are no scheduled meetings in August.

FACILITIES MANAGED BY THE PARISH COUNCIL

Parish Rooms Council Chamber is owned and managed by Southwater Parish Council. However the land on which it is sited is owned and leased to the Parish Council from the Fletcher Trust.
Leisure Centre Southwater Leisure Centre is wholly owned and managed by Southwater Parish Council.
Easteds Barn Easteds Barn is wholly owned and managed by Southwater Parish Council.
